Co-Produced and Co-Art Directed by Enrico Marone Cinzano and Samuel Cooper, Directed by Samuel Cooper. As always with Marone Cinzano’s pieces, the “Armadillo” credenza is manufactured locally using recovered materials and traditional techniques. Inspired by close observation of nature, “Armadillo” demonstrates how sustainability can offer interesting and unexpected solutions - remaining pristine while using fully reclaimed materials. The piece draws on Turin’s industrial traditions, namely retractable roof-top covers supported by pantographs found in the various tool sheds of the city’s large factories. Similar to an armadillo, a clever mechanism allows users to extend and retract its body as needed. Encased in glass, “Armadillo” evokes “cabinet de curiosités”. The recycled polished steel and recovered black rubber used in the framing along with up-cycled wheels and steel mesh of the accordion mechanism suggest a modern interpretation of biomimicry. True to the designer’s work, sustainability is brought about in a surprising and unconventional way.
Holding true to form with the furniture company's mission of high design through art and sustainability, Enrico Marone Cinzano debuts a very special piece, a Credenza called Armadillo. Armadillo is a reclaimed glass and steel complication that expands and contracts as per desired use or occasion. This dramatic and innovative piece is available exclusively at Spazio Rossana Orlandi, just in time for the Salon del Mobile di Milano 2015. Watch the magic in the video. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!
